Ley has lived in Prague for twenty years, having come here from the south of Russia. She began painting at twenty-three, as an escape from reality — studies after Edward Hopper, canvases for friends, portraits of the people dearest to her.

Her paintings hang in homes on several continents. Painting is where she found peace, and the work she makes now is her way of sharing it. She works slowly, one canvas at a time, in thin layers of oil. A painting is finished when it stops explaining itself.
